Green is Gold in Sydney!
STREET WORKS was a competition to create temporary installations that transform underutilised public spaces into vibrant places. An initiative of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) NSW, STREET WORKS invites you to re-imagine spaces in the City of Sydney as dynamic, innovative and sustainable temporary public places that will bring people together in unique ways.
With this premise one of the initiatives that was set up was called Green is Gold in Barrack Street, Sydney. This installation was created by the people of the University of New South Wales who decided that of the 1.5 billion take away (single use) cups thrown each year into landfill and non biodegradable they thought that you would be able to create little pockets of coffee cups, you can get seeds and some soil put them in your used coffee cups and place them in this facility and turn an otherwise boring piece of space into something of interest.
I loved it.
