Jeans for Genes Day submission 2010

I am wanting to share with you my latest creation. Last year I was invited to paint a pair of jeans for the CMRI (the Childrens Medical Research Institute) and they did very well.

The CMRI is a group of scientists that devote their professional lives to identifying and working on solutions for chromosomal abnormalities ensuring a better quality of life, and the work they do is simply amazing. I have toured through the facility and was so impressed.

I am their photographer and when i was asked to paint a pair of jeans I was really excited and troubled all at the same time.

This picture here is of the latest one I have done for the V8 Super car drivers jeans Jamie Whincup.

I finished it last night and wanted to share with you how it looks. It will be on display in a pre -auction gallery space which I think will be at the Sheraton Wentworth, Sydney in the next couple of weeks, I will let you know the dates.

The Jeans for Genes day held in Australia every August is the primary fund raising initiative that funds some 85% of the sustaining money needed to run this vital facility as the government provides very little to assist in this process.

The idea is that they invite celebrities to donate a pair of their own, worn jeans, and autograph them, they are then given to artists and painted, placed on display for a month then at a fund raising gala dinner they are auctioned off. As the one off items of memorabilia are auctioned off all the proceeds raise money for the CMRI.

The artists do not get paid for their time, art supplies or canvases but donate this to further help the CMRI. Lastly, on a friday every August, Australia is invited to wear their jeans to work and to donate a few dollars to help the CMRI and it is embraced largely by the public. I will also show some of last years works.
