PRINCE William and Kate Middleton will invite 100 members of the public to their wedding by holding a Willy Wonka-style lottery.
The winners of the draw will sit alongside royals and heads of state at the service at Westminster Abbey on April 29.
They will also be invited to raise a toast to the prince and his new wife at the reception party, which is expected to be held at Buckingham Palace.
"William and Kate wanted the British people involved at a deeper level than simply holding street parties," said a source close to the planning committee.
"They were crystal clear on this from the outset and were delighted when the idea of a random selection was mooted. Those lucky enough to land an invitation will only find out when it drops on their door mat."
The winners will have to comply with a strict dress code and will face a full security check.

Prince William also intends to pack Westminster Abbey with children, volunteers and the homeless as part of the "People's Royal Wedding".
There will also be street parties and a concert by pop stars. The Palace revealed yesterday that the couple want a spectacle on a grand scale.
Ms Middleton's parents have agreed to pay a five-figure sum towards the £12 million cost of the wedding; The rest will be funded by the Queen and Prince Charles.
