an evening with a songwriting legend - Graham Gouldman

Last night I had the wonderful opportunity to sit at the feet of a songwriting genius, and meet some members of the band 10CC. I write of Graham Gouldman, a man who has been heard in a number of his own songs and and copied in many cover songs.

I had been invited to take some pictures as he was interviewed for an upcoming TV special. I sat quietly on the floor, at his feet out of TV camera range, so I could take some pictures during the the hour long interview and was riveted by his experiences, influences and anecdotes behind some of his major hit songs.

He played his guitar and sung us through a number of hits and I found him to be a wonderful man and songwriter. It was truly a great experience. This man knew and worked with the Beatles, Neil Sedaka, the early members of Led Zeppelin, Godley and Creme, The Mindbenders, The Hollies and is a major part of the fabric of music that eminated out the the UK in the 60's, what an amazing period of time to have lived in. I found Graham to be a warm and self effacing person who though has encountered much success, still never achieved the Grammy or the full acclamation he so richly deserves.

I have included a few You Tube songs to refresh your memory as to who this man is and to hopefully trigger somne happy musical memories. He is touring Australia at the moment, as was Supertramp, and I cannot believe I missed them! Anyway, this was a great experience. I will let you know when the TV show will be aired, it will be well worth a look. One of my favourite all time songs is I'm not in love by 10CC which I have included below.

I enjoyed this post for a couple of reasons, Craig ... #1 .. He reminds me, somehow, of YOU! :) and #2 .. You included a couple of MY favorites, as well.

Looks like you had a really nice evening with him. CERtainly, you got some great photographs! :)
