A night at Ripples

Last night I had the opportunity to photograph the first event in a literary series of meet and greet's with a number of influential Australian authors over the coming year. This current series has been created and influenced by the brilliant artist and boundlessly talented Nafisa Naomi.

Nafisa will be featuring a classic artwork of each of the authors which will be on display at each of the respective authors functions. She is such a great artist and I am honoured to know her.

It kicked off last night at Ripples in Chowder bay with my dear friend Glenn A. Baker.

An outside view at night

Jean introducing Nafisa Naomi

Nafisa addressing the gathered audience. What a lot of work this lady does. She does nothing half heartedly!

Another outside shot, I just loved the light and the lovely ocean side vantage. I cannot count the zeros it would take to live here....yet!

I thought the alcohol and the glasses that were there made an interesting picture.

Glenn A. hits the floor with a resounding laugh and has the audience enthralled.

Another view of Glenn A. addressing the crowd.

It was a good evening, punctuated by some seriously good food and some wonderful company. Jean Kittson was the Master of ceremonies and was a wonderful master at that. She is a lovely lady and I have enjoyed meeting her a couple of times. She possesses this unique insight that so complimented Glenn's story, she seems to have become imbued into the very fabric of what makes us the people we are, and exploits it. A consumate professional.

She has approached me for some shots which I am looking forward to covering. She is one of Australia's best comedians. I love the intonation in her voice and it fits in just so well with the persona she exudes. For those who dont know her in particular I am including a YOUTUBE clip of her at a business lunch in 2008, and the way she spoke last night can be at least appreciated in a small way from seeing her enthusiasm in this clip below.

Now to my friend, Glenn A, he was a great speaker, as he spoke clearly about his experiences and insights and the people he has met, he had the audience enthralled. Whilst I know of many experiences and some of the background surrounding them, it was a great and exciting thing for him to be involved in. He will be doing speaking assignments and will be on that very lucrative circuit. I completed his flyers and did the photography and design and they will be distributed throughout the region in the next little while as he broadens his base into this new arena.

There are not enough superlatives to describe Glenn A's effervescence that clicks into gear as smoothly and as powerfully as the gear box of a Ferrari, he tells of how he met Fidel Castro, was dressed by the local Witch Doctor in Borneo, how he shed a tear or two with the great Ray Charles or how Angus Young used to be from the famed Aussie Rock Legend band ACDC. Glenn has visited over 115 countries to date, and has visited Antarctica twice and the Arctic circle 4 times, he has his own radio show on QANTAS the national airline and has contributed liner notes to albums, books, and CD's numbering in the thousands and has been a prolific writer for more than 30 years. He was also the Australian editor of Billboard magazine for more than 20 years and has amassed one of, if not THE biggest music and memorabilia libraries in the country. Glenn has won awards for his writing and even wrote a top ten song that was in the Australian charts for 8 week. He has authored 16 books and has two more books about to be published. I have done the artwork for both books and it is exciting.

Glenn commented that the he loves being around people who are creative people, artists, illustrators, painters, and writers and would not have it any other way. It was a warm and positive evening.
