Black & White portraits
These are some portraits I just did for a few people this week. It was as much an experiment in black and white as it was a desire to get a certain quality or detail from the subjects faces without being lost or distracted in other details. The first image I did was of the talented artist, doctor and dear friend Nafisa Naomi whose talent and kindness I am grateful for.
The next one is of one of my nephews, Gary.
The next one is of Gary's sister, my niece, Tertia.
The next picture is of Tertia's mum, Christine, my sister in law
the next one is of one of my brothers, Wayne.
The last one, is of the lead singer of the legendary rock band and Australian son, Angry Anderson. I shot this image last week and got to know him a little and found him to be a very good man. I really admire him, and wanted to go to great lengths to state clearly that despite having a name like Angry, and whilst he liked the image he thought it looked a little too scary, and I want to state that he is not. He is a very warm and generous person. I showed him the image backstage last night and he stared at it for a few moments and was surprised. Other prominent people saw it and went WOW. I think it shows the best of his unfettered spirit and he gave me this face in the middle of a serious set of poses, and was such a departure from what he was "supposed" to do. I post it here in tribute to Angry, and because I am proud of it.
