QANTAS in Crisis
QANTAS, the National airline has held some 20,000 traveling, paying passengers yesterday and today to ransom because they claim they cannot continue being the subject of ongoing union sponsored rolling strike action. Qantas claims they would not remain a viable entity and would in fact be signing the death warrant of the company were they to aquiesce and give in to the unions.
This is a difficult issue that has now closed International and domestic aircraft and passengers leaving them in many instances totally out of pocket as they struggle to find seats on other airlines to get where they are going, at their own additional expense.
This action and the union demands for rises and better conditions could in fact be a contributing factor to the country having some major setbacks internationally, when we need at this time to bolster incoming tourism, this is a strong repellant to visitors seeking to come to our shores.
Figure it out guys, if we are not careful we may find ourselves with mass job losses, a scaled down national carrier and all because we got too hungry for equalities and better working conditions at the wrong time globally. I dont pretend to know the answers or even all the legitimate case grievances but neither do the unions, the airlines or the government, from their lack lustre response. THIS is the time when we need leadership, people who stand up and take the hard decisions to get us back on track.
