A vice or two...
I work very hard. Not to suggest more so than others, or that I work harder than others, its just that I can attest to knowing that when many of my friends sit down after dinner they relax, chill watch TV and most dont take their work home with them. If I am not taking pictures I am working on them- full stop!
I do attest to whilst working having music playing in the background which I really enjoy, or a program on TV or something like that. But apart from news and current affairs, I like to be more choosy about what I cast some attention to and to this point I refer now.
I love situational TV dramas and find myself not wanting to dedicate 2-3 hours to watch a movie anymore but take bite size 1 hour (48 min) TV shows that capture my interest, and whilst it is rarely viewed without working, the shows become a nice companion to the many hours and hours I dedicate to creating what I do.
One of those shows has been for a number of years Dexter!
Let it be noted here that I abhor violence. I have seen a man shot dead in real life, I have seen the freshly stabbed remains of a man knifed some 13 times and felt I was tough enough to look and not be affected by it and found myself praying for sleep that very night which dragged on and on. I give that background because some of the situational dramas that I have enjoyed watching, deal with subjects I have little desire to propagate.
It has been or is however the writing and acting in shows like Dexter, Breaking Bad and Homeland to name a few that are so exceptionally good they have caught me at times almost breathless with anticipation. The dramas have caught me thinking more about life, about why it is that we as people sometimes do the things we do.
Shows like this develop characters and help me see the people behind the masks. I realise for the most part they are fictitious characters but there is a lot of humanity within them, there is a lot of depth and uncertainty within them also, as there is in each of us.
Last night I saw the conclusion of Dexter and found the end to be not totally unexpected but certainly a nice round up to characters I had seen developed and grown over the last 8 years.
Adieu Dex!
