Dr. Zhivago - The Musical

Last night I was invited to the Media Premiere of the new musical in Star City's Lyric Theatre called Dr. Zhivago starring the amazing Anthony Warlow and sensational Lucy Maunder.

I had seen the movie as child many years ago and honestly did not know what to expect at all from the musical, but was mesmerised by it all.

The changes in the sets and the ability that live theatre has to pull you in and narrate a single story layered with the interplay of human relations, and told through the experience of more than one individual at the same time, on the same stage is exceptional.

Set against the turbulent years of the great war in Tsarist Russia, a love story emerges that affects so many lives. It also left me thinking quite deeply, again, about the impact that we all make on earth, on the people we know and care about and reminded me that we, each of us, are more than we might ever think, more than we might ever really know.

I highly commend the 3 hours investment this musical will exact. It is a brilliant production - I think one of the people in front of me said it best; "the only thing wrong with it is, that it has to end!".

A stunning musical which left my heart soaring at the perfect clarity of the lyrics and melody which gives new life to such a tragic story written so long ago. Anthony Warlow's and Lucy Maunder's voices weave magnificently together a glorious tapestry as this hauntingly beautiful story unfolds from their lips and hearts. The entire creative teams and cast are to be congratulated at a remarkable body of work. I've seen many musicals but this one has captured my heart and soul like no other.
