A woman in France has used a little-known part of the country's civil code to marry a man who died one year ago in a motorcycle accident.
Magali Jaskiewicz and Jonathan George had planned to marry in November 2008, but he was killed just two days before the ceremony.
The French civil code permits posthumous marriages if all the formalities of the wedding were completed while the deceased partner was still alive, the UK Telegraph reports.
Ms Jaskiewicz used a photo of her wedding dress and the couples' bank details to prove to officials that she fitted the criteria.
She was "married" to a portrait of Mr George at a ceremony in the village of Dommary-Baroncourt on Saturday.
The ceremony was attended by 30 family members and friends.
The Telegraph reports that around 10 posthumous marriages are carried out in France each year.
