It all adds up in the end

I have secretly been looking forward to covering a special event coming up before the end of the year, it was a very big deal, that would have been a wonderful opportunity for me.

Initially, I was covering the one-off event, but the opportunity grew when a documentary was going to be made and I was approached by management to see if I would be interested in covering the documentary and several other events as well. The long and the short of it is, that I never got the gig.

I am far from disappointed though. I learned that it had come down to 2-3 people and they picked one photographer. I cannot wipe the smile off my face that I was in with a chance, and was only one of two in the end. The management team have said that they were impressed with my images and will definitely keep me on record should any future opportunity arise. The only reason they went with the first photographer, is that they had initially approached him not knowing of me or my work beforehand they said. I know that in many instances that is a polite wipe off, but I cannot tell you how energized that makes me feel, that they were impressed with my work and I got that far. It only fuels me on.

I am constantly pushing my own envelope. I have heard many times the only real failure in life is in not trying, and I can and will never be accused of that.

Well congrats, Craig! Being 1 of 2 photographers to choose from in the end is a HUGE deal!

And I think you were not chosen for this because *someone up there* has bigger and better things for you in the works. ;)

It is so strange Tammy, but I certainly feel something similar. I genuinely thank you for your comment. I am grateful for you.
