Opportunity and Choice

I applied to go on a game show which is played internationally and one I am sure you have all heard of, it is called Who wants to be a millionaire - the Hot seat.
2waytraffic, a Sony Pictures Entertainment company, is delighted to announce new multiple agreements for the classic gameshow format, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, covering 10 countries. The deals are announced as 2waytraffic prepares to launch a new spin off format, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Hot Seat, at MipTV later this month.
In a brand new twist on the classic format, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? Hot Seat sees six contestants fighting for their chance to stay in the show’s famous hot seat and win a life-changing prize. The six contestants take turns in the hot seat and face one set of 15 questions. In a gripping game of elimination, contestants cannot walk away. They must answer all 15 questions correctly, or surrender their place in the hot seat to the next contestant using their ‘Pass’ Lifeline, or answer incorrectly and leave the game.
Well anyway, I passed the first audition and last night I was notified that they wanted me for the next audition in Melbourne next week.
Hi Craig,
Thank you for auditioning for Who Wants to be a Millionaire – Hot Seat
Your audition has been processed.
Congratulations! You are invited to the second stage audition in Melbourne
I am thrilled that I made it to the next phase of the audition.
The different side for me however is that instead of them covering my cost, It will invariably cost me $500 to go there for airfares, accommodation, hire car and meals and the reason why I feel it changes for me is that the concept being a game of skill transforms into a massive game of chance. I wont be going.
Not that the $500 is worrying me in the least bit.
It is good that I have made it and I am confident that I would get on the show were I to go to the last part audition in Melbourne, but the nature of the show changes for me, maybe I am strange but if I pay the money to go there in the chance I will get through that part of the audition, it then becomes a very expensive lottery ticket. On that point I am not interested, I may as well go and buy a lottery ticket if I was so inclined - alas I am not.
It was a nice thought though. In this country, no one has ever won the million dollars when the program had it's original run, and that one person could be me! or should that now read could have been me.
I have been on a game show previously on National TV called Burgo's Catch Phrase and I walked away with almost $1200 worth of prizes which was good, one of the prizes I still use.

I will live with the thought I made it past the first hurdle, am confident I could make it past the second and will be happy with that thought.

I think you should be really proud, Craig, that you made it through the first round and were invited to compete in a second. It's too bad they make it so difficult for regular folks like us to participate.
I am totally happy with the choice I made.
